Title run still fun for all Gretna football fans

At the end of Gretna’s state title game as the fans cheered “back to back,” the snowflakes were replaced by blue and yellow confetti and streamers.

STATE CHAMPS: Gretna wins crown again

The Hawks scored two touchdowns in the first 10 minutes and rolled to a 35-20 victory over Floyd County on Saturday at Salem Stadium, capturing their second straight Group A Division 2 state football championship and their fourth in the last six seasons.

Defense unmerciful on Floyd County in state title game

Floyd County quarterback Luke Harris was constantly on the run and pummeled unmercifully by Gretna’s attacking defense Saturday at Salem Stadium as the Hawks won 35-20 for their second consecutive Group A Division 2 state championship and fourth in six years.

Offensive line unsung hero for Hawks

What isn’t as easy to see is the reason for the thousands of rushing yards created by the almost hidden factor of the Hawks’ offense — the offensive line. Anchored by three seniors, the Gretna offensive line is where all of the action starts.

OUT OF REACH: Most opponents have been unable to keep up with Gretna’s offense

Tunstall is the only team to take on both the Hawks and the Buffaloes this season. Tunstall lost 39-14 to Gretna on Sept. 12 and 21-14 to Floyd County on Sept. 29.
