I am writing concerning traffic safety at Stoneville Elementary in the future. For the past 16 years, Tammy Evans has been traffic safety officer at Stoneville Elementary. During this time there have been no major accidents or injuries to anyone. On Monday, the Stoneville Town Council was presented with the recommendation that Tammy Evans’ job be cut beginning next school year, in an attempt to save money. Mike James, town police chief, stated that the Stoneville police would not always be available to cover traffic due to other duties.
My son was a car rider for six years at Stoneville Elementary. During that time I saw Ms. Evans deal with many dangerous traffic situations. If no one is on traffic duty and a lethal accident occurs, is the Stoneville Town Council willing to risk a lawsuit?
On May 22 at 3 p.m. in Stoneville Town Hall, there will be a meeting concerning Ms. Evans’ job. I encourage any parent or school staff concerned with children and faculty traffic safety to attend this meeting.

In the 3 yrs I’ve been in Stoneville, I’ve never seen an accident. Also, in the times that Mrs. Evans did not show up to direct traffic, there was no traffic violations, accidents or law breaking and there were and have been teachers out there either assisting Mrs. Evans or doing her job for her! So, why can’t the teachers direct traffic if they can do her job, assist with her job and even get our children in and out of our vehicles (as they always do)?
Our police officers are more in need of new equipment for their safety than this town having a crossing gaurd. This lady has known for months on end that this was coming, along with her father (who happens to be the mayor) and for her to have her friend post this in the newspaper to save face and give our Chief of police a bad name is down right childish! That man has tried to do nothing but good for our town and rectify the department’s reputation after Roger Walker’s raping that woman or his father being fired. The officers we have working her now are loyal to the town and the people residing in it and I’m proud of all of them. And they are also the lowest paid officers to boot! So, if our budget is low, and we don’t necessarily NEED a friggin’ crossing gaurd, CUT THE BUDGET. That lady has more than one store that she owns to help pay her bills whilst our officers are having to not only risk their lives but also go out there and look for another paying job on top of being a low paid police officer of Stoneville! So, before you post something in your newspaper, find out ALL of the friggin facts so SH*T doesn’t get started ALL over this town for nothing!
