I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers and emergency services of Rockingham and surrounding counties for their assistance in the search for Bill Dunlap. When the call for help went out, many of you came and stayed during the eight-day search. I know this took time away from your families, friends and jobs.
Special thanks go out to Rockingham County Fire Marshal Robert Cardwell and his great staff; Chief Perry Webster and the Madison Police Department; Chief Jim Bullins and the Mayodan Police Department; and a very special thanks to Chief Steve Evans, the Stoneville Fire Department and the wonderful citizens of Stoneville. I have never been more proud to be a part of this great community. You have shown that small town values such as neighbor helping neighbor still exists.
My heart goes out to the Dunlap family and they are continually in my thoughts and prayers. Our objective was to bring Red home safe to his loving family. Even though we did not meet our objective, I believe Red is home now and safe in God’s arms.
Mike James
Chief of Police, Stoneville Police Department
