Since the news, this day and time, sometimes seems so overwhelmingly inundated with negatives, I wish to submit a letter that shares something refreshingly positive.
On April 30, South End Elementary School held its annual Career Day for students to learn about different types of careers. Volunteers from our community willingly gave of their time and resources to expose different career paths to the students at our school. Students were offered a wide variety of experienced-based learning from various professions in the areas of science, aeronautics, music, theater, photography, medicine, restaurant management, equestrian care, etc. The presenters did a wonderful job of communicating details about their specific career path and stressed the importance of staying in school, getting a good education, developing positive character traits, etc. They did so … not just by talk but in action (being in the school, sharing their area of expertise, being the role model that so many of our students need).
One never really knows how you impact the life of a child … but it is in life instances such as these that that impact can be so profound (not to mention the true joy and blessing that each party receives as a result, which I witnessed on the day of this event.)
I would like to publicly thank the following businesses/community members who gave of their time and selves to share their areas of expertise with our students and staff. Our public school is always looking for people like you who do actively choose to make a difference in the lives of children. May your benevolence/willingness to share with the youth of today…the future leaders of tomorrow… be returned to you tenfold.
