Perriello just doesn’t measure up
To the editor:
At the recent candidate forum, it was interesting to hear Tom Perriello’s reasons for electing him to Congress — and to hear his resume.
The first thing that struck me was that he had a tissue-paper resume with no accomplishments.
He said that if elected, he would be in the majority party and could secure earmarks for the 5th District. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been campaigning on restricting earmarks, so I guess it’s just campaign rhetoric.
Perriello’s previous experience consists of working for the International Criminal Court that the United States is not a participant in. Recently, the court ordered Germany to release some convicted terrorists, and they have attempted to block the extradition of indicted terrorists from England. They also ordered Texas to either release or have a new trial for several men convicted of rapes and murders because they were not advised that they could have Mexican attorneys to defend them. They were all illegal aliens, and one had been brought here when he was 3 years old. Texas fought back and finally executed one of them.
Goode understands that we are in a war with people who want to destroy us and our way of life. If Perriello and the Democrats have their way, we will fight them with judges, lawyers and juries, after the acts have been committed.

So much for taking a stand, Barack
To the editor:
I have heard about the red telephone in the White House. Are there color-coded buttons to decide on immediate and important decisions made by the president?
In the Illinois State Senate, there are three buttons for voting. The yes button is green. The no button is red and the present button is yellow. The saying in Springfield is that there is a reason the button is yellow.
One of Mr. Webster’s definitions of yellow is “cowardly or untrustworthy.”
During the debates, Sen. Hillary Clinton commented on those yellow votes: “Sen. Obama voted 130 times ‘present.’ That’s not yes. That’s not no. That’s maybe.”
The actual number of Obama’s “present” votes was 129 during his eight years in the Illinois Senate.
Maybe is not the answer to fight against terrorism.

Note to John Bruns: Tom Perriello did not work for the International Criminal Court (ICC). He worked for the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), which is only active in West Africa and has no connection to the ICC. You might be interested to know that the Bush administration and many Republicans in Congress gave strong support to the SCSL and were instrumental in its creation. Secondly, it was not even the ICC that was involved in the cases you cite: it was the International Court of Justice - another court entirely. So basically you either have no idea what you’re talking about, or like Goode and McCain, you’re willing to manufacture “facts” to try to scare other voters about scary Democrats. The fact is, Tom Perriello has worked in the interests of this country’s security, and he has the knowledge and experience to continue to do so from Congress.

Alas, Danny Ricketts, the depository of one sided information. He must go back to the IL state senate to find information about our Presidential candidate, Senator Obama. How about looking at the present and see what the voting records are in the U.S. Senate for the candidates. As of today, during the present session of congress Senator McCain has missed 410 (64%) of the votes while Senator Obama has miss 293 (45.7%). So, based upon what you have writem, Mr. Ricketts, Senator McCain is more yellow (cowardly or untrustworthy) than Senator Obama, right?
Heck, Senator McCain can’t even draw a crowd without that hockey mom lady beside his side. Hopefully wisdom will win out over simple minds who think Governor Palin has substance and that Senator McCain is the best candidate for the average person in America. With the upcoming debates, Governor Palin will be proven a liar and a bimbo (beauty queen winner) and Senator McCain will be proven to be the sad old man he is. Peace
