Thanks for all the support
To the editor:
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the people that expressed their support for me in the City Council election. Although it was disappointing for me not to receive enough votes to be elected, it was an honor to be able to run alongside the quality of candidates that our citizens had to choose from. I believe that those elected to City Council will continue to keep Danville headed in the right direction. Congratulations to all.
This campaign experience has allowed me to become better informed about the issues facing our city and the concerns facing our residents, and better prepared me to possibly be able to address the issues in the future. I have met many wonderful people along the way and made quite a few friends in the process. I am encouraged by the 2,177 people that voted for me. Thank you and God bless.

You’re not welcome there
To the editor:
I would like to address the person or persons going to the Serenity Garden at Danville Memorial Gardens and removing the luminarias from various grave sites. After discovering my husband’s luminaria was missing, I immediately notified the cemetery office and was informed they have no way of replacing anything missing from graves.
Three different luminarias were missing in that particular garden from other grave sites.
I would like to say to the individual who is stealing things from dead people shame on you!
If you look closely on the back of the stolen luminaria, you will see my husband’s name: “Michael Sims Sr.”
Please be so kind to return the stolen item. You can either return it to his grave site, or leave it at the office door after hours if you are scared of facing charges. If you choose to return it to his grave site, let that be the last time you ever visit his final resting place because you are not welcome!

It was a great hospital visit
To the editor:
I would like to express many thanks to Danville Regional Medical Center and its staff. On April 18, I had finger surgery. While the surgery only took about 13 minutes, my finger bothered me for about three months before that. Before April 18 — at nighttime — I would take my right hand and try to open my left hand. Now my finger is healing and it feels much better.
I thank all the good doctors that are in Danville and their outstanding skills, and the one-day surgery center at the hospital. Everyone treated me like I was a newborn baby.
Again, may I say many thanks to each and every one that cares so very much about all the others and their needs and health concerns.

Right choice, right now
To the editor:
It is my opinion that beer and wine should be sold on Sunday in Pittsylvania County.
I have read most of the articles in which people are stuck in old-fashioned mode, while others believe that DUI rates will go up — or at least that’s one of their excuses.
In fact, if you only have to drive two or three miles to get your choice of beverage, isn’t that better than driving 10 or 20 miles? Sunday is the day when a lot of people sit back, relax and watch sports, have cookouts, etc. Who are you to say it’s not OK?
This ban costs the small business owners in the county money, as well as the money the county is missing out on. If the Board of Supervisors makes the correct decision to sell beer and wine on Sunday, it will be doing something right in the right way.
Think about the money the business owners will make, the lowered chance of a DUI accident and the smaller amount of fuel used. I’m not sure I understand the opposition’s point.
Support the Board of Supervisors in making the right decision on beer and wine sales in Pittsylvania County.
