A Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputy was issued a criminal summons on charges of simple assault after a suspect complained he used excessive force during an arrest, the News and Record of Greensboro reported on its Web site.
Deputy John Louis Flynn Jr., 39, was served with a criminal summons following an investigation of an incident Dec. 14, according to the State Bureau of Investigation.
Rockingham County officials said deputies observed a vehicle on N.C. 87 South without a license plate and driving in an unsafe manner, according to a news release.
The vehicle then attempted to avoid and elude deputies as it fled. The vehicle later stopped and the subject inside the vehicle, James Franklin Sharpe Sr. was arrested following a short foot chase.
Sharpe was charged with eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger and resisting a public officer, the newspaper said.
He was also charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license and not having insurance or a proper registration.
After his arrest, Sharpe filed a grievance alleging excessive force by Deputy Flynn, and Sheriff Sam Page asked for the SBI to investigate the matter.
The result was the simple assault summons that was issued Tuesday afternoon.
Flynn has been with the sheriff’s office about six years, a spokesman said.

I think it is sad that Mr. Flynn has been issued a summons. He was doing his job. I’m not saying that Mr. Sharpe is guilty because I was not a witness to this event. I am proud that we have outstanding deputies in Rockingham County that are trying to protect our streets.

by the way Patsy27320 the officer was not arrested he received a summons. you know the little piece of paper that says you have to go to court? You can cuss at me and I can press charges for assault. Put the puzzle together here, he has no license or registration or insurance and is drunk. Not only is he driving but he runs from police. Sounds like to me someone is trying to get out of a charge or at least make someone else look worse than he does.

Patsy27320 must be whats the old saying,“dumb as a stump.“ Anybody can be accused of anything. I can accuse you and take out a warrent for anything. It happens all the time. The officer should have just shot him and saved us all a lot of time and money.

everyone always assumes the officer is guilty of excessive force. what about the criminal that put everyone on the highway in danger by driving under the influence, eluding police, and resisting arrest. does he think he is special and does not have to answer for his crimes. to patsy27320, the next time you need police assistance, do not call them, call James Franklin Sharpe Sr and see if he will help you. maybe he will show up intoxicated. remember the police are not the enemy. law enforcement do a job that most of you are scared to do, so stop the complaining when an officer has to use force to take a suspect into custody, because that officer wants to go home to his or her family.

well i think it is a safety issue and he is not been found guilty yet so as of now you have a man that ran from the law driving a car with numerous infractions and (probably a criminal history in opinion)when you have to chase someone and obtain them after a car and foot chase tell me what is this man going to do next to get away
KILL THE OFFICER this was definitely a desperate man to get away no one should take the chance and say hay you pretty please stop or don’t shoot me after the i begged him into submission

I’d like to know why a photo of Deputy John Louis Flynn Jr. wasn’t included with this article, like they do for others who are “lawbreakers”. I think it would of benefit to the people of Rockingham County to know the face of a Law Enforcement Officer who has been arrested for this offense.
