Friday morning, Reidsville police received a call in reference to a stolen vehicle being pursued by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, a news release said. The pursuit entered Reidsville, and the suspect’s vehicle crashed just east of Pennrose and South Park drives. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt, and speed was a factor. The driver’s name is being withheld due to pending notification of next of kin.
Reidsville police investigated the crash. The vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet van registered to Jessup Service Co. of 5415 Cook Collier Road in Liberty, was traveling east on Pennrose Drive as it approached South Park Drive. The van failed to stop at a stop sign and continued through the intersection, striking a utility pole, overcorrecting left, then back right, the release said. The van rolled numerous times before stopping in a residential yard on Pennrose Drive. The driver was partially ejected.
