A Madison man was charged Monday with breaking and entering and theft.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office says Jackie Dean Sizemore Jr. , 31, of 860 Sardis Church Road, broke into a home at 878 Sardis Church Road on Sunday.

At 12:21 p.m. Roseann Staaf, 52, of the home, reported that she returned from church to find her neighbor inside her bathroom.

He said he was using the bathroom because his was broken and that her husband, Robert, gave him permission. Robert Staaf had been ill and was in bed and not aware the neighbor had entered his home, nor had he given him permission to enter the house, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Staafs found prescription pain medicine on the kitchen floor, some of which had been taken. The door was not locked, allowing the neighbor to enter without force or being heard.

Sizemore’s bail was set at $10,000, and his first court appearance is Nov. 18.
