Eden police make second arrest in shooting

Eden police Wednesday charged Alphonza Saran Mabry, 21, with attempted first-degree murder in the shooting Carlos Lester on Nov. 26.
Mabry, of Eden, is in the Rockingham County jail under $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 10. The Eden Police Department continues to investigate.
An Eden man had already been charged in the shooting.
Paul Anthony Hairston, 33, of 522 Glovenia St., turned himself in at the Eden Police Department on Friday. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Hairston is in the Rockingham County jail under a $150,000 bail.
Officers responded to a call at Price Street and Center Church Road in Eden on Nov. 26 and found Lester, 34, also of Eden, with a gunshot wound to the chest. On Friday, Lester was listed in critical but stable condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the hospital said she had no information on Lester being a patient at the hospital.
