Rockingham County District Attorney Philip Berger Jr. spoke at the N.C. Solid Waste Enforcement Officers Association’s annual meeting last week in Wrightsville Beach.
More than 75 code enforcement officers and law enforcement personnel attended the conference and heard Berger’s presentation on preparing cases for court.
“This group works diligently to keep our state clean and environmentally safe,” Berger said. “Their work is important to our communities and it was a privilege to speak with them.”
Berger was asked to speak at the conference by Rockingham County deputies Tinker Woods and Kelly Howell. Woods and Howell helped organize the conference.
During the presentation, Berger spoke about testifying in court, collection of evidence, use of photographs and physical evidence, chain of custody issues, and what is needed for successful prosecutions.
