Authorities are investigating the death of Gregory Lane Neal, 39, of Madison, who was found dead Saturday morning behind a home on Morning Glory Road.
The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a wooded area behind 110 Morning Glory Road, where deputies found a man lying on his back with a small black and white dog lying on his chest.
Kelly Willard, who found the body, said children had been outside playing and saw the dog lying on the man.
Neal was having recent medical issues, a news release said, and nothing at the scene indicated foul play. The initial autopsy report is consistent with Neal’s death being by natural cause.
