EDEN—North Carolina native, poet and best-selling
author Robert Morgan was greeted by more than a 100
fans at Tuesday night’s Friends of the Eden Library
Annual Meeting.
Morgan talked about growing up in
rural Henderson County and how that inspired him to
write his best-known novel “Gap Creek,“ which is part
of the Oprah Book Club. He also discussed his research
behind his latest work, “Boone,“ a biography about
Daniel Boone, and read excerpts before a book signing
and dessert reception.
Morgan said that in writing the
book he discovered that most of the legends
surrounding one of America’s most famous frontiersmen
are in fact untrue, including the one about the
coonskin cap.
“He never owned a coonskin cap,“ Morgan
said about Boone. “He wore a Quaker-style hat.“
Board member Laurie Wilson, who introduced Morgan,
said she was thrilled with the turnout and the
speaker. “He was great,“ she said.
