Henry County investigators are looking for two men they believe shot and wounded a woman and a dog during a home break-in Tuesday (April 22nd).
Deputies tell us the shootings happened around 7:32 p.m. in the Bassett Heights Extension area.
Officers say Shawn Mullins and Joanna Stovall told them that Mullins spotted two men wearing dark clothing and masks on the back porch of their home, while Mullins went out to get a dog. Mullins says he was attacked by the two men outside the home, broke free, was shot at, and ran inside the home. Mullins says he tried to prevent the men from getting inside, but the men broke in anyways.
Mullins and Stovall both say the men attacked them both, and during the attack, the men shot at them, hitting Stovall and a dog. Both men then ran off.
EMS crews took Stovall to Martinsville Memorial Hospital for treatment. Doctors then decided to transfer Stovall to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Stovall is still at Wake Forest.
Investigators believe the attack may have been drug related. The Sheriff’s Office says it’s looking into a previous robbery that Mullins reported on April 14th in Bassett, and how it may be connected to the April 22nd robbery. Sheriff’s deputies say the April 14th robbery was drug related.
