“Virginia is for Lovers” has hit middle age but it’s still going strong.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine on Wednesday kicked off the 40th anniversary of the slogan, one of the most recognizable tourism marketing initiatives in the country. Kaine says the slogan is an American classic that connects with travelers of every generation.

Tourism is a nearly $19 billion industry in Virginia.
