DANVILLE — Two people have been displaced by a structure fire at 405 Scales Street on Tuesday afternoon.
Assistant Fire Chief Steve Dishman said that the crews were told all occupants were out of the building when the firefighters arrived at about 2:45 p.m.
Heavy fire and smoke were concentrated at the back of the small home and smoke conditions “rapidly worsened,” he said.
Two occupants of the house, Marilyn Ferrell and Janessa Bradley, watched the efforts of the firefighters from the sidewalk across the street alongside neighbors. Large appliances blackened by the fire could be seen smoking at the back of the house after the blaze had been contained.
The blaze may have been sparked by a dryer, according to a news release from the fire department.
