VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) _ The resort city of Virginia Beach is taking a stand against uranium mining, fearful it could threaten its water supply.

The City Council adopted a resolution on Tuesday night opposing a proposed mine in Pittsylvania County.

The city, as well as other Hampton Roads localities, draws its water from Lake Gaston. The lake on North Carolina’s border is the midway point between Virginia Beach and where the massive uranium deposit is located.

Twenty-five years ago, Virginia put a moratorium on uranium mining.
Earlier in November, the Commission on Coal and Energy agreed to study the impact of uranium mining.

Thank you, Virginia Beach, the largest city in Virginia for opposing Uranium Mining!!!

These guys understand the damage Uranium Mining will do on our water supply.

Flooding is common in our County just from rainstorms and do not mention remnants of Hurricane and the mines will be flooded and the uranium tailing ponds will flood.

Remember Hurricane Fran dumps about 5 inches and the Tuesday before Fran, we go 5-10 inches just from a rainstorm.

The area around Coles Hill was under water and the water was entering the Bannister River, Markham Road area was under water.

In addition, Open Pit Mining creates dust from blasting and our county is very windy, so the uranium particles will be spread thru out the counties, our county, Lynchburg area and the state of North Carolina!!

Plus, Uranium is all over the States of Virginia and North Carolina, so
U R NEXT FOR URANIUM MINE!!!
