DANVILLE — Danville police arrested a 17-year-old boy Monday and charged him with breaking into a woman’s house while she was still inside.
Lt. Mike Mondul said officers responded to the 300 block of West James Street shortly before 3 p.m. in response to a home burglary.
The woman called police from a closet after the suspect forced his way into her house, Mondul said in a news release.
The woman stayed on the phone with the dispatcher as the teenager walked through the house, according to police. She remained on the phone until officers surrounded the house and told her it was safe to come out, Mondul said.
The suspect refused commands from police to come out of the house, Mondul said, adding police searched the home and found the suspect hiding in a basement closet.
The teenager, whose name is not being released, is charged with burglary and grand larceny.
