RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ State officials and community leaders are scheduled to attend a daylong summit Wednesday in Richmond on the foreclosure problems facing Virginia.

Foreclosures have soared in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs of the nation’s capital over the past year, particularly in areas flush with newly built subdivisions, where loose lending standards and speculation ran rampant.

A report released in June by George Mason University’s Center for Regional Analysis said the region has one of the fastest-growing foreclosure rates in the country.
