Quarterback one of seven busted on drug charges

Police have released the names of two of the seven current and former Amherst County School students facing drug charges following a 10-month undercover investigation in which a deputy posed as a student.

Peter O’Brian Rose, 18, of Edinburg Drive in Amherst faces two charges of distribution of marijuana and two charges of distribution of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

Jody Vaughn Ramsey, 18, of Elon Road in Madison Heights is charged with distribution of marijuana.

Rose was a quarterback for the Lancers and helped lead them to their third football state title in December. He had earned a scholarship to Virginia Tech.

Both were arrested this morning. Also arrested were four juvenile students, whose names have not been released, and a fifth student who has been charged but whom authorities have not located.

For 10 months, an Amherst County deputy went undercover as a student at Amherst County High School, police said.

The deputy conducted an undercover investigation into the drug trade at that school, spurred by complaints from students, parent, educators, and the community.

“During the course of this investigation, 18 purchases of drugs were made from students, seven of which were made within 1,000 feet of school property,” authorities said in a news release.
