Police are still searching for a man who escaped from custody Tuesday night after giving a fake name.
Danville police have identified the missing suspect as Michael Jerome Barksdale of White Street in Danville.
Barksdale has an outstanding warrant on file for felony shoplifting, according to a news release from the police department.
He is now wanted for felony acts of uttering, identity fraud and escaping custody.
Rueben Cardwell, the man who Barksdale purported to be, was located at his place of employment and found to be a victim of identity theft, police said.
On Tuesday, police arrested a suspect for trying to cash a fraudulent check.
The man told police his name was Rueben Tony Cardwell and then managed to escape police custody and run from the building.

That is really bad press. They put Cardwell’s picture and name out there for the world to see and then located him at his place of employment!
Merry Christmas from the Danville Police Dept. and the R & B.

In reference to a suspect escaping from Danville PD, I must agree with shortie P and SunnyK08. Do they not verify something before it is released to the world? It appears that the current administration releases far too much to the public. Come on guys and girls, I have lived with the First Amendment for years and support it, but sometime you can talk too much before it is necessary. Lets be sure before we talk.

So now we have an innocent man’s picture posted online, wow wonder what he feels like this morning. I think the RB and DPD should think twice about posting pictures until they are sure they have the right suspect.

If he was arrested why didn’t he have cuffs on and the door locked so he couldn’t get away? And ummmm what is his REAL name? I bet this other guy doesn’t appreciate this thug using his name!!
