A high-speed chase that started shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday in Pittsylvania County and ended several minutes later in North Carolina also involved Danville police.

“Right now, we’re knee deep,” Danville Police Sgt. J.W. McLaughlin said Tuesday night. “We’re trying to piece everything together. I can’t begin to give you any details.”

Caswell County, N.C., Sheriff Mike Welch said the chase ended in his jurisdiction, but the suspects wound up in two different locations.

Welch said he had deputies at Pine Drive and another site off Old N.C. 86 near the Providence Volunteer Fire Department. He said the deputies were talking to suspects at both locations trying to piece together what happened.

Welch said the driver, who is from Virginia, abandoned his car on Old N.C. 86. Somehow he was able to get a ride with another person, the sheriff said, but deputies were able to stop them.

“We were able to stop that vehicle without incident,” Welch said.

McLaughlin said the Danville Police Department provided officers for secondary assistance. He said chases like this are demanding because they cross jurisdictions.

Authorities did not release names of the suspects Tuesday night.
