Pittsylvania County bridges slated for state inspection

Safety inspection schedules for local bridges have been announced by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Paula Jones, VDOT spokeswoman, said the work is regularly scheduled and will be done by contracted crews weather permitting.
The bridge at U.S. 29 north over the Norfolk Southern is set for an inspection on Wednesday.
Pumpkin Creek and the northbound lane of U.S. 29 and U.S. 29 over the Dan River is scheduled for Thursday.
On July 28, an inspection of the bridge on U.S. 58 in the westbound lane over U.S. 29 and Route 730 over U.S. 29 should be done. The inspection at Route 730 and U.S. 29 may continue to July 29.
A safety inspection will be done at Route 40 over the Pigg River west of Gretna on Tuesday. An inspection of Route 57 over the Banister River, east of Chatham, also is set for July 22.
On July 23, the site at U.S. 29 Business over the Norfolk Southern at Blairs will be done.
An inspection of the southbound lane of the U.S. 29 bridge over Banister River, south of Chatham, is set for July 24.
The bridge at Route 695 over U.S. 29, north of Danville; Route 694 over U.S. 29, north of Danville; Route 360 over U.S. 29 at Danville; and Route 726 over U.S. 29 near Blairs should be looked at Friday, VDOT said.
The northbound lane over U.S. 29 at Blairs is set for inspection on July 28.
Bridges are inspected by VDOT at least once every two years unless there are issues with a structure due to age, deterioration, bridge damage or other known concerns.
