One drowns at Smith Mountain Lake

A person drowned at Smith Mountain Lake last night, authorities said.
The drowning happened around 7:24 p.m. near marker B11. Authorities are not releasing the person’s identity until all family members have been notified.
Divers have recovered the person’s remains, which have been taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Conservation Police are investigating.
