Mary Rae Carter plans retirement

RICHMOND — When the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) was formed in 1995, Mary Rae Carter was appointed to an at-large seat by then-Gov. George Allen.

Carter has now announced her retirement after serving two full six-year terms, the maximum time allowed by law. During her tenure with the partnership, she served on the personnel, finance and nominating committees.

She is the owner of Madison-Maxwell Co., a public relations, government affairs and special project consulting firm.

Carter is currently serving as a legislative aide for Delegate Donald Merricks, R-Pittsylvania County.

She and her husband, Larry, live in the Penhook area of Smith Mountain Lake.

The VEDP promotes economic expansion in Virginia, focusing its efforts on business recruitment, expansion.
