The sweet sound of blue grass music and a mild August afternoon were some of the ingredients found Saturday for the sixth annual Mandolins and Magnolias event.
About 250 people were expected to show up at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History’s fundraising kickoff, according to Lynne Bjarnesen, the museum’s executive director. Funds raised at this event and during the fall drive help the museum offer the wide range of programs.
Programs were offered for the kids — including badminton and croquette — along with the second annual Magnificent Mutts Dog Show. Jeanette Williams, Sandra and Kevin Baucom entertained the crowd with a variety of blue grass music.
The funds raised also help pay for operation costs for the museum and “it keeps the light bill paid,” she said.
Cecil Murray has been an avid Magnolias and Mandolins fan for several years. Murray liked the music, the food catered by Tater Bugs Barbecue and catching up with friends.
“It’s a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon,” he said.
