Danville and the rest of the Piedmont fared pretty well as Hanna brushed the area early Saturday morning.
“Overall no serious problems,” Danville Emergency Management Services Director Doug Young said in a statement.
Young said department personnel responded to between 275 and 300 power outages at homes and businesses from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, but that all power was restored by 11 a.m. Fewer than a dozen trees fell down that required emergency management response, Young said.
About 2 to 3 inches of rain fell between midnight and 8 a.m. according to Young, as had been expected Friday afternoon by the National Weather Service.
Halifax County weathered a bit more trouble with flooding, but by Saturday afternoon “everything (was) all right,” Sherry Smith with the Halifax County Emergency Services said.
She said the county got about four inches of rain, some minor flooding from a few ponds and a few power lines down.
She wasn’t aware of any serious damage or other problems related to the storm.
Caswell County experienced pretty much the same situation, according an officer on patrol at the sheriff’s office on Saturday afternoon.
She said one part of U.S. 158 East was closed for a bit due to some flooding and trees down, but other than that, there were no major problems.
