Congressman Virgil Goode is requesting a recount of votes in the 5th District Congressional race hours after the State Board of Elections announced that Democratic newcomer Tom Perriello officially won.
The State Board of Elections announced Monday that Perriello won with 745 votes; giving him a razor thin lead of .23 percent. Virginia law provides for a recount where the vote difference is one percent or less.
“Over 316,000 votes were cast in this Election for U.S. Representative. The morning after the Election Night, with all precincts reporting, we were ahead by 446 votes. Since that time, over 3,200 votes have changed—the largest changes coming from cities and counties that voted for my opponent,“ said Goode in a press conference at his Rocky Mount, Va. office Monday afternoon.
He said constituents have encouraged him to seek a recount.
“In an election this close—with less than one-quarter of one percent separating the two candidates, and with literally thousands of vote changes taking place during the post-election canvass process—a recount is an important protection for voters. It ensures that each ballot that was lawfully cast in the Election is counted, and that the votes are accurately tallied. It also gives us a chance to ensure that each candidate’s tally is comprised only of votes that were properly and lawfully cast,“ he said.

Gordie, I have a life and don’t need a government that is more socialist that democratc (yea, that is what I think of the liberals) to tell me what to do and try to always restrict my rights.
and 832, yea you are right, people need to start practicing for the next 4 years, helping all the new homeless.

you people are still talking about this.
Let it go…...
Go do something else, like help the homeless or feed the needy. Stop whining and try giving something back to your community for a change. It is the season to be thankful.

jimmystick, could you please back up your spin. Tom welcomes the recount and for you to say the things you have said just shows what a jerk you are. And don’t worry we will raise enough money to protect Tom’s lead from the likes of Virgil and his racist, bigot ways and his attempt to steal the election.
I remember 2000 all too well.
jimmystick and Eeltee why don’t you get a life instad of living off the pork that Virgil throws your way. And stop coming up with all your lies about 5,000 voters in a 2,500 voting area.
Good God you people are naive, just like your boss. Someone who can’t even think for himself. His supporters have to tell him what to ask for a recount. No wonder he lost the election.
Goode is the average every day copout just like his supporters.
Just like Virgil cannot even say things for himself like the truth;
“I know it’s probably a waste of time and money, but my ego won’t let me let it go”.

I am sure glad to see him Goode out. When are we on the south side gonna get tired of hearing the empty promises of brings jobs down here. It’s obvious to me that he CAN NOT deliver the results he promises to us. I hate the fact that so many of us have started to belive that we cant do any better than him. The hardest thing to do is MOVE ON. Fianlly we have moved on.

GOODE’S OVER-PAID EMPLOYEES LIKE “EELSTEEW” “JIMMYSICK” “ILOVEPOLISLICKS” HAVE NOTHING TO DO THESE DAYS BUT SIT AROUND HIS GOVERNMENT OFFICE & READ MESSAGE BOARDS & WHINE ABOUT HOW THE MAJORITY OF THE VOTERS IN THE 5TH DISTRICT “MUST HAVE BEEN WRONG” HOW SAD THAT THEY & THEIR BOSS NO GOOD DON’T WANT TO FACE UP TO THE FACT THAT THEY GOT US INTO THIS DISASTEROUS FINANCIAL MESS AND THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS ARE SICK OF THEM. GOOD RIDDANCE! KEEP UP THE WHINE. NOBODY IS PAYING ANY ATTENTION. THEN HEAD OVER TO VIRGINIA EMPLOYMENT, PUT IN AN APPLICATION & SEE WHAT REAL LIFE IS LIKE IN THE MESS YOU CREATED.

It’s time for Goode to go. He’s been in office for 12 years. Our President and our Governor have term limits. Congressmen and Senators should as well. Keeps corruption down. If Perriello doesn’t do a good job, vote against him in the next election. That’s the great thing about our country. If our elected officials are not doing a good job, we’ll vote you out. Well, sometimes we’ll vote you out. Not sure how Bush got reelected in 2004, but that’s another debate.

They need to do this with kids gloves to be sure that votes are counted properly… I’ve got “ Goode Vibrations that it will go our way.

I don’t know the locality where twice those registered voted, said I just heard it. But, doesn’t surprise me.
I just refuse to believe that persons from the southside are so gullible they fell for a smoothe talker such as Perriallo. It had to be more.
I firmly believe if the recount is honest and complete Goode will win hands down.
