CALLANDS — A single-family home at 1420 Calvary Road was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.
Kevin Snead, chief of Callands Volunteer Fire & Rescue, said the call came in at 1:46 a.m. and the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
Snead said about 25 firefighters from the Callands, Climax and Chatham fire departments battled the blaze until 6 a.m. Callands firefighters returned at 9 a.m. to “mop up and make sure there were no hot spots,” he said.
“There is little salvageable as far as the home or contents is concerned,” Snead said.
An official determination about the cause of the fire has not been released.
“It appears it began as an electrical malfunction, but it’s still under investigation by the Pittsylvania County fire marshal,” Snead said.
No one was hurt in the blaze.
“The only person at home got out safely before we arrived,” Snead said, adding that the other two members of the family were not home at the time.
