Martinsville Police say a van crash took out two telephone poles Wednesday afternoon.

Officers say a U-haul van hit one telephone pole on Memorial Boulevard, near its intersection with Bridge Street, around 4:10 p.m.  The impact knocked the first telephone pole into the second telephone pole, along with the telephone lines running between the two poles.  The telephone lines fell onto a parked car.

Nobody was hurt.

Police estimate damage at $10,000.  About $7,000 of that is damage to the telephone lines and poles.

Officers charged the U-haul’s driver, Gregory Bowman, with failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
