MARTINSVILLE — The second of two murder suspects wanted in a Sept. 30 shooting incident at Deep Blue Seafood Restaurant in Martinsville was captured Tuesday by U.S. marshals in Burlington, N.C.
Barry Hairston died March 30 as a result of the wounds he sustained in that incident, and charges against Corey Demon Turner, 30, of Martinsville, were upgraded from malicious wounding to first-degree murder, according to a news release sent from the city’s public relations office.
U.S. marshals captured Christopher Lerone Mitchell in Atlanta on Dec. 17 and charged him with shooting Hairston, but Turner remained at large.
In addition to the murder charge, Turner faces charges of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit murder and failure to register as a sex offender, the release states.
Turner is being held without bond in the Alamance County Jail in Graham, N.C., while he awaits extradition back to Martinsville.
