Transition program aids ex-offenders in starting over

Rockingham County schools has released reading adequate yearly progress results for the 2007-08 school year in grades three through eight, a news release states. Thirteen of the 20 elementary and middle schools in Rockingham County, or 65 percent, made Adequate Yearly Progress in reading, according to recently released results.

Perriello claims victory; Goode not backing down
Democrat Tom Perriello has declared himself the winner in the hotly contested battle for Virginia’s 5th District congressional seat. Perriello, along with some staff members and his parents, announced his victory Friday afternoon at a coffee shop in Martinsville.
Seniors donate automated defibrillator to bowling alley
Bowlers packed Riverside Lanes on Thursday afternoon, and while participants of the Senior Bowing League wouldn’t dream of missing a single roll, they also felt safer thanks to a recent donation to the bowling alley. League member Danny Allen recently spearheaded the group’s effort to donate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Riverside Lanes.
County treasurer race still unsettled
Pittsylvania County’s registrar says no one was denied their right to vote Tuesday amid allegations of machine irregularities that left some unable to cast their ballot for treasurer. Voters who noticed and were concerned enough to alert precinct officials ended up casting paper ballots, Jenny Lee Sanders, the county’s registrar, said Friday.
RCC spring registration starts Tuesday
Registration for spring semester for currently enrolled and new students at Rockingham Community College will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 2-3 and Jan. 5-6. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 8.
