Concert in the Park
Veronica’s Secret Band, a Reidsville-based trio, will perform a free concert 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eden Kiwanis Amphitheater in Freedom Park.
“We do everything from Moody Blues to Chuck Jackson,” said Larry Johnson, keyboardist. Johnson, lead singer Veronica Jones and guitarist and bassist Ron Farris do jazz rearrangements of 70s and 80s tunes, plus some original music. .
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a relaxing evening of music.
Labor Day Party
Celebrate the end of summer in the Draper community. Head to 1805 E. Maryland Ave., in Eden, the home of Jerlyn Belcher, for the 8th Annual Labor Day Weekend Celebration. The celebration begins Saturday morning. The Country Classic Band from Pelham will perform from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and “Elvis” takes the stage at 1 p.m. for a tribute to The King of Rock n’ Roll.
CrossWalk Cafe
Cindy Johnson of Winston-Salem and God’s Garage Band of Madison will provide the entertainment at Saturday’s CrossWalk Cafe in the old sanctuary of the Church of God of Prophecy at 13811 N.C. 87 in Eden. Johnson has been featured as an independent artist in Contemporary Christian Music Magazine. God’s Garage Band performs Top 40 music as heard on K-Love radio station and some original songs.
The music begins at 7 p.m. Admission to CrossWalk Cafe is free. Coffee and light refreshments will be available for a minimal donation.
Tractor Supply Grand Opening Celebration
Tractor Supply Co. at 842 S. Van Buren Road in Eden is holding a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Activities include pony rides and a petting zoo and a classic car and antique tractor cruise-in.
Habitat House Dedication
Rockingham Habitat for Humanity invites the community to a remodeled home dedication at 115 Gerry St. in Stoneville to Glenda Shelton at 3 p.m. Sunday. Vernita J. Turpin donated the house and additional lots.
Take Two
If you’re a collector, head to Hillsville, Va., for the Labor Day Gun Show and Flea Market this weekend. VFW Post 1115 has been sponsoring the Labor Day show since the 1960s. The town expects this weekend’s flea market to draw a half-million visitors. Flea market hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. For general information about the flea market, contact VFW Post 1115 at (276) 728-2911. To get to Hillsville, Va., from Eden, take N.C. 87, turn right onto U.S. 220 North/Greensboro Road, merge onto U.S. 220 North , then merge onto U.S. 58 West toward Stuart, Va. The trip is about 1 1/2 hours.
