The kids were out of school, most people were off of work, and they soaked up the sun, spending quality time at the Mayodan Homecoming Festival. Mayodan held its annual 22nd Homecoming Festival in commemoration of the establishment of Mayodan’s First Baptist Church. So, while the days are getting shorter, the town of Mayodan gave you another opportunity to dance the night away.
Mayodan’s 22nd Homecoming Festival was Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., supplying a variety of music from bluegrass by Blues Creek Band to Rockingham’s favorite shagging band, Legends of Beach. They provided a stage for the performers and a fun atmosphere for the audience to perform their moves, which they perfected over the years.
Local vendors sold Halloween costumes, custom purses and food while providing smiles and laughter for the entire family. People had an opportunity to learn about voting as well as learn some new dance moves from the CC dance company. There was even an opportunity to get your hair spray-painted such colors as blue, silver, green and the vendor’s most popular color, hot pink.
Ann Pratt, McMichael High School choral director, led the initiative to paint hair different colors, all while giving the fierce customers a sweet treat to sweeten the dramatic change. All proceeds were being donated to the choir.
Connie Fox, the event media contact, estimated that 3,000 people made their way to the festival this year. And with all the back-to-back choirs, bands and dance performances scheduled, the attendees would definitely be entertained.
