GRETNA — For the Danville-based gospl group Sammy Terry & The Spiritual Highlights, headlining GospelFest 2008, AN annual concert to benefit the Mount Nebo Baptist Church building fund, has become as much a tradition as the concert itself.
The group will perform following two shows Saturday, one in Ringgold and the other in Yanceyville, N.C.
Founded in 1996, over the past 12 years the group, featuring Sammy Terry, Twawaiin Harper, Jimmy Merritt, Wayne Brdley, Dean Macklins, Stevie Macklin, Jerry Washington, Fred Wilson and Anthony Younger, has performed numerous shows and recorded several CDs, including their first, “God is a Good God,” and their latest, “He’s My Rock.”
They will be joined in concert by John Thorpe and The Thorpe Family, a Rougemont, N.C., group; Faithful Few, Trueway Male Chorus, Anointed Voices of Grace and Stars of Faith, all of Danville; the Stevens Family and Shockoe Male Chorus, both of Java; Heavenly Angels of Eden, N.C.; Gospel Connection of Martinsville; the Adams Family of Brookneal; Spirits of Joy, Chatham; and the Tucker Family, Gretna.
The concert, sponsored by A&J Promotions, will also feature Pastor Roger Williams.
Doors to the show open at 3 p.m. Sunday at Gretna High School, Gretna, with the concert kicking off at 4 p.m.
